1
OBJECTIVE
Installation of municipal backup, and ground and rainwater harvesting system with filtration
2
SOLUTION
Pipework was installed to harvest water from the roof. Harvested rainwater collects in three connected tanks. Borehole water is also supplied to these three tanks from the borehole pump station. This raw water is filtered as needed as determined by the water level in the clean water tank (which has a storage capacity of 200 kilolitres). When the level in the clean water tank is below a certain level council water will supplement the system. This system uses a Walchem controller to assist in monitoring pH, turbidity and oxidation-reduction potential of the water, as well as the tank levels.
3
RESULTS
The large surface area of the roof, as well as the groundwater provided by the borehole is used to supplement council water in order to decrease the amount of water supplied by council. This system also provides backup storage to the lifestyle centre. The Walchem controller assists in monitoring water quality.
